The challenge was to add a master bedroom and storeroom to a double adobe vernacular Northern New Mexico house in Chacon, NM. Without compromising the character of the house, imposing an inappropriate mass on the land and add a new voice to the valley. We chose to use traditional proportions, slightly over-scale and designed a knuckle that allowed the massing shift which also takes advantage of the solar aspect of the site.
The front and sides were untouched.
